Traffic
represents
one man's struggles through city traffic on a typical Monday morning.
Opening with our traveler waking up to the dreadful realization that
it is the start of a new work week. Slowly but surely he pushes
himself out of his bed and turns on the daily traffic report and, it
appears, to be worse than ever! The music shifts into an upbeat
transition as the man hops in his car and drives to the interstate.
With unusual modulations and a tri-tone 'oom-pa' in the low brass,
you can hear him dodging cars left and right....just before he slows
to a virtual stop in the "Traffic Jam". Aggravated by the inconvenience, he
turns on his radio and listens to some relaxing music to help him
forget about being stuck in traffic. Eventually, traffic begins to
move just as he reaches "The Work Zone". A barrage of
percussion and brass represents the construction zone as traffic
slowly passes. The second movement ends quickly with the front
ensemble restating the theme from the first movement. Finally.
after a long workday, our traveler is ready for the "Ride Home". Far
more enjoyable then the ride to work, this movement travels through
an array of brass fanfares and moving percussion lines. As the show
finishes, we return to the original theme signaling the end to a day
in Traffic.
