Built on the premise that music is made up of 3 components: rhythm, melody, harmony. Movement I "Rhythm" begins with the simple quarter note pattern of the gock block, layering more complex patterns to the apex of the movement then returning to the simple quarter note gock at the end. Movement II "Melody" combines the melodies of Panga Lingua and Simple Gifts. Movement III "Harmony" uses pyramiding chordal statements followed by a Bach chorale. Elements of Music culminates in the third movement by combining all three musical elements using Beethoven's Hymn to Joy as the source.
